Prezi versus Powerpoint
Prezi is a very unique way of creating a presentation. Though I was unfamiliar with Prezi before
this class, the first time I saw it, I fell in love. Prezi has a beautiful, smooth way of
transporting you through the presentation.
You can choose from several premade templates, much like you can in
Powerpoint, or create your own from scratch.
From this point on, Prezi takes on a different approach than
Powerpoint. With Powerpoint, you can
create different “slides”, each with a limited amount of information. You can add pictures, graphs and other
content, along with animations for each.
For example, a photo might swing in from the left and park in the upper
right hand corner, or a bulleted text list might show up one item at a
time. From there, you move on to the
next slide.
However, with Prezi, you start with just one blank “board”. When I created my Prezi, I used the template
of a pirate ship at bay on a “treasure map” island. A presentation with Prezi is more like a
journey than a story. You travel along created
points along the board, either preset or those you create. Within each point, you add content, and here
is where it gets really nifty.
When you add content to Prezi, you not only move within the
point, you also move within the content.
For example, you might have a point with a circle surrounding some
text. The presentation will glide you
over to the point, and zoom in on the text.
Let’s say it says “Love makes the world go ‘round.” From there, you might then have the screen
turn, while zooming in on the period at the end of the sentence. There, you see a picture of the world, which
then zooms in on the word “LOVE” written on it, which in turns zooms in on
other text. Prezi seems to have all of
the functionality of Powerpoint, and more.
You can create levels within levels with Prezi, and it is absolutely
fascinating and fun!
